"S-factored" indicates that a snake is heterozygous for the stargazer gene. (More info about stargazing) The stargazer gene is believed to be a simple recessive genetic defect and the ACR is using this field to help breeders keep track of this gene.
The different choices for any snake are: |
"Unknown/Unproven" this is the default selection. Unless the user chooses another option the snake is recorded as "unknown/unproven."
"Stargazer" indicates that a snake is homozygous for the stargazer gene and is an actual stargazer.
"S-factored" indicates that a snake has been proven heterozygous for the stargazer gene through breeding trials. That is, this snake has definitely produced stargazer offspring.
"Possible carrier" indicates that a snake may or may not be heterozygous for the stargazer gene, because one or both of its parents are proven carriers, or because it comes from a "suspicious" bloodline and the owner felt it noteworthy and worth proving.
"Proven Non-carrier" indicates that a snake has been test bred against a proven carrier and proven negative to that breeder's standard of proof. The number of offspring determine the certainty with which we can know an individual is a non-carrier. The Special notes can be used to indicate this if desired. Each breeder is responsible for their own decision as to what level of proof is needed.
